Fall Wardrobe Staples
Fall is my second favorite season, right after summer. I love everything the harvest season brings, the crisp chill air, the beautiful autumn colors of the leaves, apple and pumpkin picking, Halloween decorations and of course, Thanksgiving. For me, fall is about slowing down and getting cozy. Fashion-wise, it’s the season of layering and embracing shades of brown, the ultimate fall color. Below are the core pieces of my fall wardrobe, the essentials I find myself reaching for on repeat this season.
1). Slip Skirt
A slip skirt is the definition of effortless elegance. You can pair it with a simple t-shirt or a cozy sweater and sneakers for a laid-back look, or dress it up with heeled boots and a cardigan or blazer. I love wearing a slip skirt in the fall because the weather is still comfortable enough to go without tights.
2). Long Denim Skirt
The long denim skirt is a chic alternative to jeans. It’s an easy way to add a more feminine touch to your look, and the longer length instantly makes any outfit feel more polished. You can style it with chunky wool sweaters and boots or pair it with sneakers and a cardigan for something more casual. Add a belt to elevate the look and you’re good to go!
3). Cardigan
A cardigan is fall’s ultimate layering piece. You MUST have one, it’s non-negotiable! I added this cardigan from Balzac to my fall wardrobe this season, and I can’t stop wearing it. I love the leopard pattern and the shades of brown. It’s so easy to wear with jeans and ankle boots or with skirts. Make sure to have at least one cardigan in a neutral color like camel, cream, or black so it pairs effortlessly with everything.
4). Short-Sleeve Cotton Sweater
This is such a perfect transitional piece to have in your closet! You can wear a short-sleeve cotton sweater with everything from jeans to skirts, and it layers perfectly under a cardigan or blazer when the weather starts to turn chilly. My short-sleeve cotton sweater in the picture above is from J.Crew.
5). A good pair of Jeans
As I’ve said in previous articles, a good pair of jeans is a must-have in every closet! Opt for a straight or flare cut, they’re timeless, flattering, and work well on most body types. I love styling mine with ankle boots and a short-sleeve cotton sweater layered under a blazer or cardigan for a polished look, or with a chunky knitted sweater when I want to feel more low-key.
6). Brown Belt
As I mentioned earlier, fall fashion is all about embracing shades of brown and having a brown belt is a must. A belt can instantly elevate any outfit and a brown one adds a chic, polished touch. I’ve added the Iris Belt (link here) in mocha from Beckett Simonon to my wardrobe this season and I love how sleek and versatile it is! You can use the code LAFRENCH10 for 10% off.
7). Chelsea Boots
Chelsea boots are my go-to shoes in the fall. They are stylish, comfortable, and perfect for walking around all day. I prefer my Chelseas with a small heel, they instantly elevate any outfit. They pair well with straight or cropped jeans, a slip skirt, or a long denim skirt. This season I added a pair of brown Chelsea boots (picture above) and I’m obsessed with them! I love this deep shade of brown. I have the Bianca Chelsea Boots in Sandalwood. I’m so thrilled Beckett Simonon has this color, because it’s surprisingly hard to find good leather ankle boots in dark brown for women. If you’re looking to grab a pair like this, don’t forget you can use my code LAFRENCH10 for 10% off!
Enjoy layering up and getting cozy this season!
